This coin is part of the 2019 Sierra Leone Big Five 2 ounce Silver Proof Series. Only 500 of each coin was struck. Originally the Big Five was a hunting term referring to the five most dangerous and difficult animals to hunt. Today it’s widely used by wildlife guides and tourists as a list of must-see animals. The Big 5 are Lion, African Elephant, Black Rhinoceros, Leopard and Cape Buffalo. This coin was struck with a large 50mm diameter. I took a photo with a quarter above the coin to give perspective on the size. It is housed in a capsule that fits into a acrylic holder. The acrylic holder opens and closes with magnets making it easy to remove capsuled coin for viewing. The colorful outer sleeve also serves as the certificate of authenticity.
