The Changing Face of Britain. Britannia is the female personification of Britain, embodying the changing ideals and values of the country throughout history. The 2016 reverse design has been created by sculptor Suzie Zamit, the only woman to have designed a coin featuring Britannia. This is her third design for the Royal Mint, following her 2010 design for the 2010 Britannia coin range and the 2009 Charles Darwin bicentenary 2 pound coin. She has brought her own perspective to Britannia, “the warrior queen, ” portraying her as a strong figure, proud, patriotic and courageous but in a protective, peace-keeping way. The obverse design depicting HM Queen Elizabeth II was created by sculptor Jody Clark. A Proof standard coin usually has a highly polished table and a frosted relief. To mark the rare occasion of a female sculptor designing Britannia, the second coin in this limited edition set from The Royal Mint has been struck with the frosting effect reversed. Only 500 sets were minted. The 2016 1oz silver Britannia standard proof coin in this set has a maximum mintage of 7000. The 2016 1oz silver Britannia standard reverse proof or “reverse frosted” coin in this set has a maximum mintage of 500. The COA for this set from the Royal Mint shows that this is set 047 out of 500.
