The reverse of the Belfast Coin shows the coat of arms of Belfast which was used as early as 1643, but it was not until 1890 that the arms were granted officially. The shield, as seen in this reverse design, is’blazoned’ (described technically) as follows. This means that in the upper part there is a silver bell on a small red cornerpiece. Or’canton’, and a larger triangular segment formed of interlocking blue and white pieces in a specifically heraldic pattern known as’vair’. So it is scarcely surprising that a sea-going vessel should dominate the shield. The bell in the upper part is a simple reference to the city’s name and appeared on tokens issued by Belfast tradesmen in the seventeenth century. The Obverse design is the stunning portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank Broadley. This is a premium proof set! The difference being all of the coins in this set are bright without any haze or cloudy coins. This happens when being able to choose each coin for assembly, not a random set with 1 or more inferior coins. Now we have a set of premium coins, next we house them in an archival safe Capital holder, usually white because the light is drawn to the coins. Next metal screws are used to secure the coins in their holder, not the cheap plastic ones that break when you try to tighten them. Last, the set comes with a display box that has a clear lid for viewing without having to open the box. You will probably be able to find a “cheaper” set, but then that’s what you will end up with!
